The short answer: most local car buyers are already in Facebook groups: the buy and sell group for their town, the cars-for-sale group for their state, and the owners' group for the make they want. Posting each vehicle there, with the price, real photos and wording that changes from group to group, reaches them without an ad budget. The work is the posting itself, 20 or 40 groups for every car, and that's the part AutoGP does for you while you sell.
This page is for dealers and the businesses around them. If you're selling your own car, the buy and sell groups guide fits better. For other kinds of business, see all our business guides.
Why groups work for vehicles
A car group is a room full of people who are shopping right now. Someone asks "anyone selling a reliable commuter under $8k?", members tag each other, and a good post gets shared to a friend who needs a truck. A dealer's own Page reaches its followers; a group post reaches people who haven't heard of the lot yet.
Groups also cost nothing to post in. The price is the routine: opening each group, pasting the post, attaching photos and pressing Post, for every vehicle on the lot. With AutoGP you set up the post and pick the groups once; AutoGP then works through them with gaps between groups, and doesn't need you while it does.
How to sell more cars at a used car dealership
Used car dealers post most often of anyone on this page: every new arrival, every price drop, every weekend.
Find the groups
Type these into Facebook's search, then choose Groups:
[your town] cars for sale,[your county] buy sell trade,[your state] cars and trucks for salecars under 5000 [your area]andcheap cars [your area], for budget stock[make] owners [your state]and[model] club, for the brands you stock mostfirst car [your area]and[college town] buy and sell, for students and parents
Join groups within the distance your buyers will drive. A buyer won't cross three states for a ten-year-old sedan, but might for a rare truck, so keep your widest groups for the unusual stock.
Read the rules
Car groups set rules you won't find in general groups:
- Dealers allowed or not. Some groups are for private sellers only.
- A post limit per seller, often one car a day or a few a week.
- Price required, and sometimes the mileage and the city too.
- Bump rules: how often you may comment to push a post back up.
- Sold posts to be marked sold or deleted.
A post for each vehicle
{Just in|Fresh on the lot|New arrival}: [year] [make] [model] [trim], [mileage] miles
[Price], {clean title|title in hand}
{What stands out|Highlights}: [one-owner or service records], [engine or drivetrain], [the feature buyers ask about]
{Honest note|Good to know}: [the one flaw you'd want to know about]
{Test drives|Come see it} at [lot name], [town]. {Message me|Send me a message} for the full photo set and history report.
[Your name], [dealership name]
Year, make, model, mileage, price and the honest note stay outside the braces: only phrasing changes between groups, never a fact.
Weekly rhythm and yearly calendar
- Weekly: post new arrivals midweek, so buyers can plan a weekend visit; post price drops Thursday or Friday; answer comments the same day.
- Tax refund season (February to April in the US): the busiest months for budget cars. Post your under-$10k stock more often.
- Spring and early summer: convertibles, trucks for projects, first cars before prom and graduation.
- Late summer: first cars for students before the term starts.
- Fall and winter: four-wheel drive and all-wheel drive before the first snow.
How to sell more motorcycles, RVs and boats
Powersports and recreational dealers post less often than car lots, but each unit costs more, so each post is worth more care. Their buyers also cluster by interest more than by town.
Search terms: motorcycles for sale [your state], [make] riders [your region], dirt bikes for sale [your area], RV for sale [your state], camper trailers for sale [region], full time RV living, boats for sale [lake or coast], [lake] boaters, pontoon boats for sale [state].
Interest groups, like a riding club or a lake's boaters' group, often ban sales posts except on a set day. Where they do, a useful post (a ride route, a launch-ramp update) earns more goodwill than an ad.
{Ready for the season|Ready to ride|Ready for the lake}: [year] [make] [model], [hours or miles]
[Price]. {Serviced|Fresh service} [date], [what was done].
{Included|Comes with}: [trailer, covers, gear or accessories]
{Viewing|Come take a look} at [dealer name], [town]. {Message me|Send me a message} for a walkaround video.
Calendar: post motorcycles and boats from late winter, before the riding and boating season; RVs in late winter for summer trips and again in early fall for snowbirds heading south; storage and winterizing services in the fall.
How to get more auto repair and detailing customers
Repair shops and detailers sell a service, not a vehicle, so Meta's rules put them in a different place. Its Commerce Policies say services can't be sold through commerce features like Marketplace. Ordinary posts in groups that allow business posts are the route.
How to get more car detailing customers
- Groups: your town's community groups on their business day,
[your area] car enthusiasts,[make] owners [your state], and localcars and coffeegroups. - What sells: before-and-after photos of your own work, taken in the same light, with the owner's permission to post them. Say what the job was ("interior deep clean, pet hair, 3 hours").
- Rhythm: a post a week in each group that allows it, with a new job's photos each time. Spring (pollen and salt removal) and before the holidays are the busiest.
{Before and after|Today's job}: [vehicle], [service name], [time taken]
{Mobile detailing|I come to you} in [towns]. [Service] from [price].
{Openings|Available} [days] this week. {Message me|Text [number]} to book.
How to get more customers in your auto repair shop
- Groups: community and recommendation groups, where "can anyone recommend a mechanic?" is asked every week; make-specific owners' groups for specialists.
- Answer requests as the owner, once, and say the shop is yours. Recommendations from customers carry more weight than your own post, and in the US the FTC's reviews rule bans fake ones.
- Post useful seasonal checks, such as tires and batteries before winter or air conditioning before summer, with your availability at the end.
The rules for car businesses
- Dealer licensing. In many US states, selling more than a handful of cars a year without a dealer license is illegal, and posing as a private seller ("curbstoning") is the practice those rules target. Post as the dealer you are.
- The FTC's Used Car Rule. US dealers must display a Buyers Guide on used vehicles they offer for sale, stating whether the car is sold as is or with a warranty. Your post shouldn't promise a warranty the Buyers Guide doesn't give.
- Credit terms. If an ad states a monthly payment, a down payment or a number of payments, US Regulation Z (loans) and Regulation M (leases) require the other key terms, such as the APR, in the same ad. The simplest group post shows the cash price.
- Accuracy. Mileage, title status and accident history must be true. Use photos of the actual vehicle.
- Meta's rules. Its spam policy covers repetitive content posted at high frequency, and the Commerce Policies govern anything listed on Marketplace.
This is general information, not legal advice; rules differ by state and country.
Doing it with AutoGP, step by step
AutoGP is a Chrome extension paired with your autogp.ai account. It posts ordinary posts to groups you've joined, as the Facebook profile logged into Chrome, and never asks for your Facebook password. Chrome stays open while it posts. AutoGP isn't affiliated with Meta.
Sync your groups in the Groups tab.

Make bundles by reach and by type: "Town and county", "State-wide cars", "Truck groups", "Budget cars". A budget sedan goes to the first and last; a lifted truck to the first three.
Write the vehicle post with the template above, attach up to 10 photos (varied slightly per group), and put the full photo set or history link in First Comment where groups allow links. Save it as a template to reuse the layout for the next car.

Preview the variations and check that the price and mileage never change.
Schedule new arrivals for midweek mornings in the Schedule tab, and use Repeat every for a weekly "this week's stock" post in groups that allow one.
Let the pacing work. The warm-up daily limit, random delays and a duplicate-content guard are on by default; spread a big stock across several days rather than one burst.

Check Results. It lists the groups each car reached, with links, and why any group didn't take it. Posts waiting for admin approval count as submitted, so don't post them again.
After 19 free posts (no card), see pricing. Any posting tool carries some risk to your Facebook account, which our terms explain.
What not to do
- Every car to every group. Match stock to the group: a $3,000 runabout doesn't belong in a classic-truck group.
- "Message for price". Many groups remove it, and buyers scroll past.
- Stock photos or another car's photos. Buyers notice, and it can break advertising law.
- Posting as a private seller when you're a dealer.
- Leaving sold cars up. Mark them sold or delete them the same day, as most car groups require.
- Posting 40 groups on a new account on day one. Start slow and let the limit rise.
